Properties of the multiphase outflows in local (ultra)luminous infrared galaxies

چکیده

ABSTRACT Galactic outflows are known to consist of several gas phases; however, the connection between these phases has been investigated little and only in a few objects. In this paper, we analyse Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE)/Very Large Telescope (VLT) data 26 local (U)LIRGs study their ionized neutral atomic phases. We also include objects from literature obtain sample 31 galaxies with spatially resolved multiphase outflow information. find that phase on average an electron density three times higher than disc (ne,disc ∼ 145 cm−3 versus ne,outflow 500 cm−3), suggesting cloud compression is more important dissipation. difference extinction correlates mass. Together analysis velocities, suggests at least some associated ejection dusty clouds disc. This may support models where radiation pressure dust contributes driving galactic outflows. The Environment of Local Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

The spatial cluster-galaxy correlation amplitude, Bgc, is computed for a set of 76 z < 0:3 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) from the 1 Jy sample. The Bgc parameter is used to quantify the richness of the environment within 0.5 Mpc of each ULIRG.We find that the environment of local ULIRGs is similar to that of the field with the possible exceptions of a few objects with environmental de...

Suzaku Observations of Local Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

We report the results from our analysis of Suzaku XIS (0.5–10 keV) and HXD/PIN (15–40 keV) observations of five well-known local ULIRGs: IRAS F05189–2524, IRAS F08572+3915, Mrk 273, PKS 1345+12, and Arp 220. The XIS observations of F05189–2524 and Mrk 273 reveal strong iron lines consistent with Fe Kα and changes in spectral shapes with respect to previous Chandra and XMM-Newton observations. M...

Local Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies and Quasars

This paper reviews the recent results from a comprehensive investigation of the most luminous mergers in the local universe, the ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) and the quasars. First, the frequency of occurrence and importance of black hole driven nuclear activity in ULIRGs are discussed using the latest sets of optical, near-infrared, mid-infrared, and X-ray spectra on these objects....

Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

The IRAS survey of the local universe (z_0.1) has revealed the existence of a class of ultraluminous infrared galaxies with L(8-1000#m) > 1012L® that are slightly more numerous, and as luminous as optically selected quasars at similar redshift. Optical CCD images of these infrared galaxies show that nearly all are advanced mergers. Millimeter-wave CO (1 _ 0) observations indicate that these int...

Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

Ever since their discovery in the 1970’s, UltraLuminous InfraRed Galaxies (ULIRGs; classically Lir > 10 12L⊙) have fascinated astronomers with their immense luminosities, and frustrated them due to their singularly opaque nature, almost in equal measure. Over the last decade, however, comprehensive observations from the X-ray through to the radio have produced a consensus picture of local ULIRG...
